Privacy policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This policy explains what information Mohalla Kitchen collects when you use our website mohallakitchen.in and our Android app, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to customers and to home cooks.
Mohalla Kitchen is run by Mohalla Kitchen, Hubballi, Karnataka, India (“we”, “us”). Questions: support@mohallakitchen.in.
1. What we collect
You give us:
- Account details: name, email address, phone number and password (stored only as a secure hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
- Delivery addresses you save, with the map pin you choose.
- Orders: what you ordered, quantities, pickup or delivery choice, notes for the cook, and order status.
- Payment references: the UPI transaction reference (UTR) you enter after paying a cook. We never see your UPI PIN, bank or card details.
- Reviews, dish requests and support messages you write.
- Home cooks also give us: kitchen name and description, kitchen and dish photos, menus and prices, UPI ID (so customers can pay you), and optionally an FSSAI registration number.
Collected automatically:
- Location: your device location (only with your permission) or a place you search for, to show kitchens near you and check delivery distance. On the website the browsing location stays on your device.
- Notification address: if you turn on alerts, your browser or phone gives us a push address so we can send order alerts.
- Technical logs: IP address, browser or device type and timestamps, kept by our hosting providers for security and to fix errors.
We do not use advertising trackers, sell data, or build advertising profiles.
2. How we use it
- To create your account and sign you in, including sending one-time sign-in and password-reset codes by email.
- To show menus and kitchens near you, take your order and pass it to the cook.
- To send order updates and alerts by email, in the app and by push notification (you can turn these off).
- To record payment references so the cook can confirm your payment, and to handle refunds and disputes.
- To keep the service safe: preventing fraud and misuse, enforcing our terms, and meeting legal duties.
- To answer your support requests and improve the service using totals (for example, number of orders per day).
4. App permissions (Android)
- Location (while using the app): to find kitchens near you and set your delivery point. You can say no and type an address instead.
- Camera and photos: only for cooks, to add kitchen and dish photos. On the website, photos are re-saved without hidden location data before upload; in the app, please avoid photos that show your house number or street sign.
- Notifications: for order alerts. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone settings.
5. Payments
You pay the cook directly by UPI or cash. Mohalla Kitchen does not collect, process or store your bank, card or UPI PIN details. We store only the UTR reference you enter and the amounts, so orders and refunds can be checked. If we add an online payment gateway later, the gateway will handle payment details under its own policy and we will update this page.
6. Where and how long we keep it
- Your data is stored on servers in India (Mumbai).
- We keep your account details while your account is open.
- Order and payment records are kept for as long as Indian tax and consumer-protection rules require, even after you delete your account, but in a form no longer linked to your name, email or phone.
- Sign-in codes expire after 1 hour. Push addresses are removed when you turn alerts off or the address stops working.
- Hosting logs are kept for a short period by our providers.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from the account menu in the app, or on the web at mohallakitchen.in/delete-account. You can also email support@mohallakitchen.in from your account's email address.
When you delete your account we sign you out everywhere and remove or anonymise your name, email, phone, saved addresses, profile and kitchen photos, favourite kitchens and push addresses. Order records stay in anonymised form as described above. An account with an order in progress can be deleted once that order is finished or cancelled.
8. Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can:
- ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct or update it (most of it you can edit yourself in Profile);
- withdraw consent and have your data erased (see section 7);
- nominate another person to act for you in case of death or incapacity;
- raise a grievance with us, and then with the Data Protection Board of India.
Write to support@mohallakitchen.in. We reply within 30 days, usually much sooner.
9. Security
Connections are encrypted (HTTPS). Each person can read only their own data; this is enforced in the database itself. Passwords are stored as secure hashes, delivery verification codes are encrypted, and staff access needs two-step sign-in and is logged. No system is perfect: if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
10. Children
Mohalla Kitchen is meant for people aged 18 and over. Younger people may use it only with a parent or guardian who manages the account. We do not knowingly collect data from children without that consent; if you think we have, write to us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For important changes we will also tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
