Cancellation and refund policy

How payment works
Mohalla Kitchen connects you with home cooks. During the pilot you pay the cook directly by UPI: an advance when you order (half or the full amount), and any balance when you receive your food. Some kitchens let you pay the whole amount at handoff. Mohalla Kitchen does not hold your money and charges no platform fee during the pilot.
Cancelling an order
- You can cancel from the Orders page until the cook confirms your advance payment. If you have not paid yet, nothing is owed.
- If you chose to pay at handoff, you can cancel until the kitchen starts preparing your order and before the order cutoff.
- Once the cook has confirmed your payment, the kitchen has bought ingredients for your order and you cannot cancel it yourself. Contact us if something has gone wrong and we will help.
- If you do not pay the advance within the time shown at checkout (30 minutes during the pilot), the order is released automatically and nothing is owed.
When you get a refund
- The cook cancels your meal (for example, illness or an emergency): you get back everything you paid.
- The cook cannot make enough plates: the most recent orders are cancelled first, and those customers get back everything they paid.
- A problem with your food (missing items, wrong order, not fit to eat): tell us within 2 hours of receiving it through the Help page, with a photo if you can. If the complaint is valid we ask the kitchen to refund you in part or in full.
- A refund never exceeds what you paid for that order.
How and when refunds are paid
Because you paid the cook directly, the cook refunds you directly by UPI to the account you paid from, and records the transaction reference in the app so you can see it on your order. Refunds are normally made within 2 working days of being approved. If a refund is late, contact us and we will follow up with the kitchen.
